"How are you?"

Three words.

Words that can open
...or close
...the door to my heart.

Do you really want to know?
Do you really have time to hear?

Stop.

If you look in my eyes long enough, maybe you'll find your answer.
My eyes... if you look long enough, they will tell you.

You say I have courage
...sending my loved one off to war
...taking care of my family.

You say I'm doing great.

You see me
...surrounded by people
...smiling
...doing.

But...

You DON'T see me
...alone
...crying
...functioning.

You say
"How are you?"

How am I?
...I am hurting.

Can I trust you?

My pain...what I am bearing
...it is sacred.

Do YOU have courage
...to stop
...to gaze into my soul?

Do YOU have courage
...to listen
...without a word?

And if I choose to close my eyes...for a time

Do YOU have courage
...to ask again
...to walk with me
...to bear my burden with me?

I, too, am facing a battle.

Look...into my eyes.
