Canada - Canadian Virtual War Memorial
website
This site contains a registry of information about the graves and memorials of more than 116,000 Canadians and Newfoundlanders who served valiantly and gave their lives for their country. Included on this site are the memorials of more than 1500 soldiers who died in service to Canada since the Korean War, including peacekeeping and other operations. The site also contains digital images of photographs and personal memorabilia about individual Canadians. The purpose of the Canadian Virtual War Memorial is to recognize and keep alive the memory of the achievements and sacrifices made by those who served Canada in the defence of freedom and so have contributed to the development of Canada as a nation.

Canada - Highway of Heroes
http://www.thankasoldier.net/highway.html
On August 24th, 2007 the stretch of highway from Trenton, Ontario to Toronto, Ontario was renamed The Highway Of Heroes. Before this stretch of highway was renamed, normal civilians, veterans, soldiers, friends and family would line the overpasses from Trenton to Toronto and pay our respects to our fallen heroes. I personally was able to attend four of these processions when I lived in Ontario and it is truly something that has to be experienced first hand to put in to words. Sometimes it was in -20 Celsius temperatures but you think to yourself these men and women go through so much more the least we can do is stand in cold temperatures to give them our thoughts and prayers as they take the drive to their final resting place.

Canada - Travelling Flag
Facebook Group Link
The Travelling Flag was first started in 2008. Within it's white, it holds the names of our Canadian fallen soldiers in Afghanistan. It travels throughout Canada to both supporters and families of the deployed, injured and those who gave the ultimate sacrifice.
With each visit the flag carries a journal and an opportunity for each each individual holder to honour the fallen in thier own respect. To date it has been displayed at legions, memorials, to school groups and to private family functions alike. There are no rules per say as it's meaning is different for everyone it touches.

The journal is significant in that everyone involved is enabled to write and to read thoughts and memories. For many, soldiers inclued, it is a chance to say thank you when the words are just not there. It has even become a coincidence that some of the writtings concern the next holder in tribute to their soldier. It has become a very heart felt way of communication.

At the end of it's travels, after our Canadian tours in Afghanistan are complete, it is our wish that all those who took part will come to a concensus as to where the flag will call home.

How the flag works is by a simple email and conversation. Your adress will be added to our list and we will let you know when it will come to you. If there is a special circumstance, all involved have no issue changing the order in which it is sent and we will accomodate. Once it arrives, it comes with general instructions and the next adress to send it to after. Everyone gets a week with the flag. It is our wish that everyone has the opportunity to have it visit. I can't verbally explain how it touches everyone when it arrives. Since it began it's journey, my heart has been touched in many ways as the realization in speaking with many people, how much it means. It travels to all our families and with it something unique for each, while at the same time holding a comfort and a connects us as a whole.
