FINRA Foundation Military Spouse Fellowship Program
The FINRA Foundation Military Spouse Fellowship Program gives military spouses the opportunity to earn a career-enhancing credential—the Accredited Financial Counselor® certificate—while providing financial counseling to the military community. The fellowship covers the costs associated with completing the AFC® training and testing.
Created in 2006, the program is administered in partnership with the Association for Financial Counseling and Planning Education® (AFCPE®) and the National Military Family Association (NMFA). To date, the FINRA Foundation has awarded nearly 1,200 Military Spouse Fellowships—and participants have logged more than 279,500 hours of service back to the military community.

Hiring our Heroes (U.S. Chamber of Commerce)
In March of 2011, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce launched Hiring Our Heroes, a nationwide initiative to help veterans and military spouses find meaningful employment. Working with our network of 1600 state and local chambers and other strategic partners from the public, private, and non-profit sectors, our goal was to create a movement across America in hundreds of local communities where veterans and military families return every day.
There are four pillars of the Chamber’s Hiring our Heroes program. While the main focus of effort is on conducting 100 hiring fairs for veterans and military spouses in local communities across the country, we have also created strategic partnerships to deal with specific populations of veterans and their unique challenges in three other areas to include: a Wounded Warrior Transition Assistance Program, a Student Veterans Internship and Employment Program, and a Women Veterans and Military Spouses Employment Program. Our aggressive agenda focuses on one measure of success—jobs for the one million unemployed veterans in America.
Inc. Military Entrepreneurs
Inc. launched the Military Entrepreneur’s Program to educate, mentor, and inform service members and their families about entrepreneurship.
The demands on modern military spouses often make it difficult for these individuals to seek, obtain, and sustain professional careers commensurate with their level of education and experience. Existing family support systems have done an outstanding job assisting spouses with finding entry-level positions and traditionally "pink-collar" jobs. In Gear seeks to expand the impact of these existing programs by addressing specific needs of spouses whose professional career trajectories are interrupted by frequent moves and deployments.

Military Spouse Career Advancement Accounts (MyCAA)
The Military Spouse Career Advancement Accounts (MyCAA) Program is an employment assistance program that provides up to $4,000 of financial assistance to eligible military spouses who are pursuing a license, certification or Associate’s degree in a portable career field and occupation.
Military Spouse Corporate Career Network
The MSCCN is a nonprofit organization in excellent standing with the IRS. We focus on employment readiness, applicant referral, job training, and job placement assistance for military spouses, transitioning military, veterans, war wounded, and caregivers of war wounded. The MSCCN was founded and created by a Navy spouse in 2004 and is operated and managed by a team of geographically diverse military spouses, veterans, and caregivers of war wounded, working from home offices located near military installations across the country.
Military Spouse Education Initiative
Through advocacy and support programming, we will provide spouses with the tools to accomplish their education goals.
Our mission is to provide an education program for military spouses of all branches, ranks, and education levels built around the obstacles of military life.
Four Point Plan:
1. Establish a "Volunteer Experience to College Credit" program between the American Council on Education, the military service branches, and military service organizations
2. "PCS College Courses Program-" Course transferability
3. Equip spouses with expanded skill sets with workshops on topics such as goal setting and balance
4. Launch a Military Spouse Service Grant
Military Spouse Employment Partnership Job Board
A job board opened to military spouses from all branches of the military. This board currently features over 100 companies that "pledge to give military spouses a special look for job openings as well as train supervisors to be flexible and understanding about the military lifestyle while allowing for job transferability during military moves when possible.
Military Spouse JD Network - A Bar Association for Military Spouses
The Military Spouse JD Network supports military spouses who pursue a legal career by:
- Advocating for bar membership without examination,
- Encouraging hiring military spouses, and
- Providing a support network.
MSJDN includes military spouses from all branches of the United States Military: Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marines, and Navy as well as spouses of retired service members and legal and military organizations who support our mission.
Military Spouse Mentoring
Mentoring Military Spouses helps to do the following, among many other things:
- meet needs not previously met
- promote individual success and growth
- encourage career establishment
- support educational goals
- provide for one-on-one parenting exchanges
- enable a better understanding of navigating military life
Military spouses affliliated with each branch of the United States Armed Forces may benefit from this program. A database will be maintained with all efforts to maintain privacy and confidentiality of those listed. No personal or contact information will ever be shared with a third party, private, public or federal sector based, without your permission or knowledge. Mentors are matched with spouses who are seeking educational, career, military life, parenting, or other guidance. This program is entirely volunteer based. We request that mentors be available to their partners at least 5 hours a month, for more information, please request a FACT sheet and apply to become a mentor. Mentors may communicate with their partner in a number of ways, each situation will be different. Partnerships may be virtual (i.e. internet chat/messenger or email), telephone based, or in person. For individuals with disabilities or the inability to frequently use technology, correspondence mentoring is possible as we are an equal opportunity, nondiscriminating group.

National Military Family Association - Spouse education
Pursuing higher education is admirable and rewarding. Although it might prove to be difficult for a military spouse who moves regularly, it is certainly not impossible. Don’t be overwhelmed or discouraged. In fact, it’s easier than you think!
Did you know the average annual salary difference between someone with a four-year degree and a person with a high school diploma is approximately $20,000? In addition, a degree can bring job opportunities that otherwise would not be available. You may find yourself asking questions such as: Where do I start? Where can I find money for school? Will my credits transfer if I move?

National Military Family Association - Spouse employment
According to Department of Defense statistics, 85% of military spouses want or need work, 84% have some college, 25% have a bachelor’s degree, and 10% have an advanced degree. Military spouses earn 25% less than their civilian counterparts and 1 in every 4 military spouses is unemployed and looking for work. Our Association surveys confirm these statistics and families tell us that they want more than a job to pay the bills; they want to be able to continue their professional career development. With this type of awareness, many federal and private sector initiatives have been developed over the past few years that can impact military spouses’ abilities to start and maintain careers of their own and still be “married to the military.”
Military spouses tell us they want a portable career. Some portable career professions have state licensing requirements which restrict career portability for military spouses. Since 2011, our Association has worked in partnership with the Department of Defense State Liaison Office to reduce state professional licensing barriers. Thanks to our efforts some states now offer licenses by endorsement or a provision license to military spouse. Visit the website for a chart outlining these states. Navy Civilian Human Resources
In the Department of the Navy—and throughout the Federal Government—military spouses have greater opportunities than ever before to be hired as members of the civilian workforce. In 2009, the President signed an Executive Order that provides a non-competitive appointment authority for hiring certain qualified military spouses, spouses of disabled veterans, and un-remarried widows/widowers of veterans.

Navy Exchange Jobs
The Navy Exchange Service Command (NEXCOM), headquartered in Virginia Beach, Va., oversees five primary business units including Navy Exchange (NEX) retail stores and services, Navy Lodges, the Uniform Program Management Office, the Ship’s Store Program and Telecommunications. Its mission is to provide authorized customers with quality goods and services at a savings and to support quality of life programs for active duty military, retirees, reservists and their families.
The Navy Exchange System employs 14,000 dedicated associates worldwide, 27 percent of whom are military family members. It is also a partner in the Department of Defense Military Spouse Employment Partnership (MSEP) which pledges support to provide career opportunities for military spouses.
