Hire Heroes USA
Hire Heroes USA is dedicated to creating job opportunities for US military veterans and their spouses through personalized employment training and corporate engagement.
Hiring our Heroes (U.S. Chamber of Commerce)
In March of 2011, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce launched Hiring Our Heroes, a nationwide initiative to help veterans and military spouses find meaningful employment. Working with our network of 1600 state and local chambers and other strategic partners from the public, private, and non-profit sectors, our goal was to create a movement across America in hundreds of local communities where veterans and military families return every day.
There are four pillars of the Chamber’s Hiring our Heroes program. While the main focus of effort is on conducting 100 hiring fairs for veterans and military spouses in local communities across the country, we have also created strategic partnerships to deal with specific populations of veterans and their unique challenges in three other areas to include: a Wounded Warrior Transition Assistance Program, a Student Veterans Internship and Employment Program, and a Women Veterans and Military Spouses Employment Program. Our aggressive agenda focuses on one measure of success—jobs for the one million unemployed veterans in America.
Inc. Military Entrepreneurs
Inc. launched the Military Entrepreneur’s Program to educate, mentor, and inform service members and their families about entrepreneurship.
The demands on modern military spouses often make it difficult for these individuals to seek, obtain, and sustain professional careers commensurate with their level of education and experience. Existing family support systems have done an outstanding job assisting spouses with finding entry-level positions and traditionally "pink-collar" jobs. In Gear seeks to expand the impact of these existing programs by addressing specific needs of spouses whose professional career trajectories are interrupted by frequent moves and deployments.
We will provide a forum for community support, information-sharing, and mentoring that addresses the unique challenges and strengths of the career-minded military spouse.

Military Franchising - Military Spouse Friendly Home-based Franchises
Being a military spouse has taught you skills like perseverance, discipline, tenacity, and the ability to operate independently. These skills are the perfect foundation for a franchise owner. With franchises, you don’t need an MBA, business experience or a killer idea. Franchises are proven business models that come with directions. The franchise concept is sometimes compared to baking: The franchisee uses a proven recipe and, following the step-by-step instructions, bakes a delicious cake. They’re not baking it from scratch – they’re using grandma’s recipe that everyone already knows and loves. If you’re looking to earn extra income on the side and operate a business out of your house, a home-based franchise may be the perfect fit.
Military Friendly Schools
Now is an exceptional time to be a military member, veteran, or spouse seeking education. The Post 9-11 GI Bill and MyCAA programs have virtually eliminated financial constraints from your choice of school. The downside is that you now have over 7000 options when deciding where to put your brain and hard-earned benefits to work. We created the Military Friendly Schools Guide and website to help you narrow the field and select the school that meets your unique needs.
We’ve gone to great lengths to determine which of the 7000 college, universities and trade schools nationwide offer you the best education, value, and welcome. The result is a list of approximately 1000 schools which represent the 15% that are the most Military Friendly. Use our College Search tool to filter schools based on your individual preferences, and let the Military Friendly logo guide you to a school that values your military experience. Once you’ve found several schools for consideration, one click let’s you add them to your personal list and request information.
Whether you are seeking formal education to further your military career or prepare you for a civilian career, our site is for you. The schools advertising on www.militaryfriendlyschools.com have made an investment to reach you, so we encourage you to reach out to them and consider their educational opportunities.

MilSpouse Resume Builder (Blue Star Families)
Military spouses frequently face challenges in maintaining a career. Constant moves, deployments, and the military lifestyle have resulted in high unemployment among military spouses and a significant wage gap. This can affect the readiness, retention, and well being of the military community.
We know that military spouses volunteer at a very high rate. Volunteering isn't just a great way to support the community, it's also a great way to learn and hone important job skills. What if you could take your volunteer experience and the skills you gained and turn them into career skills on a resume? Well, now you can.
Blue Star Families has created a resume builder to help you get started, sponsored by the Military Spouse Business Alliance.
National Military Family Association - Spouse education
Pursuing higher education is admirable and rewarding. Although it might prove to be difficult for a military spouse who moves regularly, it is certainly not impossible. Don’t be overwhelmed or discouraged. In fact, it’s easier than you think!
Did you know the average annual salary difference between someone with a four-year degree and a person with a high school diploma is approximately $20,000? In addition, a degree can bring job opportunities that otherwise would not be available. You may find yourself asking questions such as: Where do I start? Where can I find money for school? Will my credits transfer if I move?
Find answers to these and many more questions to help you achieve your higher education goals.
National Military Family Association - Spouse employment
According to Department of Defense statistics, 85% of military spouses want or need work, 84% have some college, 25% have a bachelor’s degree, and 10% have an advanced degree. Military spouses earn 25% less than their civilian counterparts and 1 in every 4 military spouses is unemployed and looking for work. Our Association surveys confirm these statistics and families tell us that they want more than a job to pay the bills; they want to be able to continue their professional career development. With this type of awareness, many federal and private sector initiatives have been developed over the past few years that can impact military spouses’ abilities to start and maintain careers of their own and still be “married to the military.”
Military spouses tell us they want a portable career. Some portable career professions have state licensing requirements which restrict career portability for military spouses. Since 2011, our Association has worked in partnership with the Department of Defense State Liaison Office to reduce state professional licensing barriers. Thanks to our efforts some states now offer licenses by endorsement or a provision license to military spouse. Visit the website for a chart outlining these states. Do you have a portable career experience you would like to share with other military spouses? If so, please email us.
Navy Civilian Human Resources
In the Department of the Navy—and throughout the Federal Government—military spouses have greater opportunities than ever before to be hired as members of the civilian workforce.
