Wounded warrior and family
Baby carriers - Ruckabye Baby
Free baby carriers are provided to United States active duty military, veterans, and soldiers in the reserves who have sustained injuries in service to their country that prevent them from holding or bonding with their children under two years of age.
The Carrying On Project
For generations, the practice of babywearing has made caring for children easier while helping them develop or maintain life-long bonds with caregivers. The goal of the Carrying On Project is to help get carriers to the families of our military so that they may better obtain secure attachments with their children, something that deployment and injuries will often interrupt. We seek to assist both the service members and the families left behind in “Carrying On” while both home and away, to make something that is difficult for the whole family a little bit easier.

Connection and support - Hearts of Valor (Operation Homefront)
Hearts of Valor TM seeks to honor the service and sacrifice of the women who care for our nation's wounded, ill or injured warriors by providing a community of support based on a foundation of empathy and mutual understanding.
Hearts of Valor is a network of people caring for wounded, ill or injured service members, created and maintained by Operation Homefront.
Operation Homefront seeks to support these caregivers in their own journey of healing by facilitating an online community that provides social connections to other caregivers in similar situations, fostering support groups by geographic area to encourage resource sharing and friendships, and sponsoring annual retreats to provide education on relevant issues.
Additionally, we recognizes each person's personal sacrifice by sending a welcome gift upon their acceptance to the program.
Connection and support - Purple Heart Family Support from MarineParents.com
Through our unique programs, Purple Heart Family Support™ creates avenues of solace for Wounded Warriors and for their families by providing fellowship, encouraging networking and communication, and nourishing a healthy understanding of a Purple Heart Marine’s and family’s road to recovery.
The Purple Heart Family Support™ program, East and West Coast Wounded Warrior Meals, has proudly served over 6,000 meals to injured servicemen and to the families waiting at their bedsides since its start in 2007. Our dedicated volunteers serve meals once each month at each location, and even coordinate activities and field trips for our Wounded Warriors on the weekends meals aren’t being served. Although Bethesda Naval Hospital in Bethesda, Maryland and the Wounded Warrior Barracks a.k.a. Balboa in San Diego, California are our current program locations, we hope to expand our services to other military hospitals around our nation as funding through donations increases.
The Purple Heart Family Support™ Learning Center offers information pertaining to ill or injured servicemen so that no family feels overwhelmed during their time of need. Definitions of terms, procedures for notification, links to military hospitals, and even information regarding Invitational Travel Orders can be found here. The Learning Center can be the catalyst for Marine families to implement successful action plans in the event that their Marine is wounded in combat. They will have a better idea of what questions to ask and who to contact to receive as much information as possible.
Family support - Defenders of Freedom
Defenders of Freedom is a non profit organization with the purpose of raising money to support our troops who are currently deployed around the world. Because our troops are actively working to keep America safe, Defenders of Freedom believe passionately in showing them as much support as possible.
100% of the profits are used to:
- Send "support boxes" to our men and women in uniform
- Support wounded soldiers with encouragement and needed items, especially those with no support
- Support the families of our wounded soldiers both physically and emotionally
Family support - Our Military Kids' Wounded Warrior Program
Children of Wounded Warriors face similar financial difficulties along with the challenges of learning to adapt to the physical, mental, and emotional changes in a loved one.
Our Military Kids provides grants to children of ALL Wounded Warriors (Guard, Reserve, and Active Duty) for sports, fine arts, camps, and academic tutoring programs. Such activities help nurture and sustain the children during a parent’s lengthy recovery and/or rehabilitation.
Family support - Project Lifting Spirits
Soldier's Santas - Often, when a troop is wounded, the one thing they really miss being able to do is provide a gift for their own child. We will be trying to see to it that every wounded service member in our area has a gift on hand to give his/her child when they come to visit "Daddy" or "Mommy" at the hospital. We will offer this year round, so the service member has a gift for that all-important first visit with their child after returning home, for the child's birthday's and of course at Christmas.
Family support - TAMCO Foundation (Florida)
TAMCO Foundation is a non-profit, non-partisan charity which provides direct support to military veterans from Florida who have been severely wounded and disabled while serving in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Family unity support helps re-engage you with your family. It increases self confidence, develops social interaction and rebuilds and connects the family. Examples of this would include payment of family travel to and from the hospital, events and fun family outings, children support and activities, and holiday fellowship.
Family support (sponsorship) - The General's Kids
If you are the parent or guardian of a child living at a military hospital you may sign up for the sponsorship program of The General's Kids. We’ll connect you with an individual, family, or school class that wants to make your child feel appreciated for their service to our country. Please fill out the registration form and we will be contacting you within the next 3 business days. When a sponsor signs up the priority will go on a first come first serve basis. We will try to place families with more than one child with sponsors who want to reach out to the whole family that way all the children receive the same amount and frequency of cards. When available we’ll also pair school classes with children of the same age. That way it makes a good connection for both parties.
The General's Kids also offers a financial program. "If your family moved to a new area and your child would like to participate in local activities like sports, music and dance lessons, etc…we would want to help cover the costs."
